A New Breed of Crime-fighters

Crime Fighting Duo

We have the newest breed of crime-fighters in our midst.  A few weekends ago, Young Leaders armed with paint brushes and hammers set out to improve a local early learning center in Ensley.  The center is a part of United Way’s Success By 6 initiative to enhance school readiness for pre-schoolers in Central Alabama.

So, you may be asking yourself, “Where does the crime fighting fit into this?”  Well, according to Birmingham Police Chief, A.C. Roper, improving early learning opportunities for local children is the most important strategy to fight crime in our area.

This situation in Birmingham is not something we can arrest our way out of. We’ve got to do something about our education process and our poverty situation.”

Young Leaders invested their time and talents into improving the learning environment for one pre-Kindergarten program, which will better equip them to learn the skills necessary to excell in school and make them less likely to drop out.

Thank you to all of the Young Leader Crime-fighters for doing your part to make our city smarter and safer in the future — eat your heart out, Batman!
